Standing aboard the small boat that's going north east, you try to think of the new life you will get...
You were miserably poor in New Creche, but now King Donald made this great offer. He'd supply every new settler of Borderwood with a basic set of supplies to start a new existence there. As the horses pull the boat around another turn in the river, you see a big clearing in the dark gloomy forest that was on the right side of the river for at least two days now. The other settlers begin to get excited, too. This will be your new home, Borderwood, and a place to call your own. The boat comes closer to the shore, and people begin unloading. One of the guards that stood watch on the boat's aft walks over to a big tent standing in the middle of the clearing. Another man appears from the tent's inside and follows the soldier to the boat. "Greetings" the man from the tent says "I'm King Donald's acting gouvernor for Borderwood. So you are the fine fellows who are going to spread our lovely civilisation in this area. Come over to the tent to register for a parcel of land." All follow the gouvernor to the tent, so you decide to tag along..
Lagging behind a bit, you see the ships crew beginning to unload the crates that were guarded by the soldiers. In front of the tent all the settlers had formed a line and were still chattering excitedly. One after another they vanish into the tent to return a bit later with a box of tools and a happy look on their face. Finally it's your turn, and you enter the tent. A clerk sits at a table and casts an inquiring look at you. "Name, Place of Birth?" he demands. Feeling a bit intimidated by his hard stare, you mumble the answer. Behind the clerk, the gouvernor beams at you. "Please sign here" the clerk passes over a pergament. Horrified, you stare at the clerk. They had never told you that one had to be able to write. Realizing the problem, the clerk grabs you hand, spills some ink on your thumb and puts it on the bottom of the pergament. "Congratulations, Settler" the gouverneur bellows. A man dressed in hunters clothes enters and hands you a box of tools. "You can chose a 50 paces x 50 paces area to settle." Looking at your new toys, you quickly leave the tent and start looking for a nice place to build your house.
