How to pick up the sword and join Team WorldForge

blade Firstly, thank you for your interest in helping the project. Here's a step by step guide for how you can pick up the sword and join the WorldForge team as a Developer. Take your time... the best developers don't find their niche until they've been participating in the team for a few weeks.

  1. First and foremost, read the FAQ.
  2. Read through the excellent Newbie's Guide to WorldForge if you haven't already.
  3. Check out our mailing lists on numerous WorldForge topics.
  4. Determine which area or areas you're most interested in, and what type of role you'd ultimately like to fill.
  5. Read over the webpages for the area you'd like to work in to get a feel for what's been done, and if something seems incomplete or in need of work, take note, because that's probably a good area for you to work on later.
  6. Come to, channel #lounge, and talk to people there.
  7. Spend a week or so familiarizing yourself with the project (it's big and complicated, 'cause we like it that way.) After that week, you'll be more comfortable about what's going on and ready to jump in.
  8. Download and play Mason, our current development effort. Or at least check out the screenshots! ;-)
  9. On the appropriate mailing list, let people know what you're going to be working on.
  10. Some day when you're an old hand, find a few newbies, teach them the ropes, and help them get involved. Keep the torch burning bright. :-)
