About STAGE

STAGE derives in spirit and philosophy from the MUD/MUSH/MUSE culture. In fact, its developers have been involved in the MUD community for many years. However, STAGE differs from most MUDs in that it is a graphical, coordinate-based, generalized server.

STAGE is also not a clone or emulator of any of the current generation of Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games (MMORPGs), as these games largely derive from older, more primitive forms of MUDs and lack sufficient gameplay sophistication to avoid player community atrophication.

Objective

The objective with STAGE is to build an innovative, flexible framework for creating games of any genre and of a variety of types, including real time strategy (RTS) like WarCraft or Myth, turn-based strategy games akin to Civilization, pseudo-roleplaying games (MMORPGs) such as EverQuest, and real roleplaying games (a genre missing from the commercial game industry, to date.) The reason STAGE can shoot for these ambitious goals, is because the things STAGE handles (client connections, account management, game pieces moving around in a world, database persistance, messages and events, and so forth) are fairly universal to any type of game.
